Hello just bought a 68 corvette. has a 350 from a 75 vett. Just rebuilt all the brake calipers. It has a master cylinder but no brake booster. Do I need a brake booster, and if so is it a difficult job? My mechanical knowhow is limited. Can anyone help. Thanks
No, you dont need a power booster, only power brake cars had them. Im gonna assume your car is a non power brake car. Having never added a booster to a C3, I cant tell you how hard it is to do but just by looking under the dash it sure seems like some of those bolts might be a bear to get at. Looks like a long extension and a deep wobbly socket might help.
I agree, your car has the non-power brakes set-up. My car is the same. You have to use more muscle on the brake pedal to get the car to stop, but I don't find it objectionable at all. Once you get the brakes all functioning great after the caliper rebuilds, drive the car and see what you think of the effort needed to stop the car. If it's not to your liking, a booster can be added with a little bit of work. I have no idea what a shop would charge you to do that.
Hi t,
Only about 1/3 of the Corvettes produced for 68 had power brakes.
If your standard brakes are working well I think you'll find they do a good job. They're a different 'feel' than power brakes, but can certainly stop the car in a hurry.

Alan
