Default Odd Question

Are the tail light bulb socket...gaskets, or cushions, or whatever they are called available new? I am asking about the small round foam piece that goes between the light bulb socket and the tail light lens or marker light lens.

Hopefully I am making sense and know what I am asking about.

I would like to replace all of them and am missing two of them.

Thanks

No, not the body to lens gasket. I am after the round cushion that stays on the bulb sockets for the tail lights. I am after the foam cushion or gasket that goes around the socket.

Try searching the vendor websites.

If you don't find then you may be able to cut them out of craft foam ... try AC Moore, Michaels, JoAnn Fabric.

No luck (yet) with the vendor sites....of course I may not be searching for the correct name for these things.

I had also thought about just making some, but no way to die cut these things, so home made are not going to look real good, functional, just not nice and round.....worth a try though as I am not having any luck finding replacement ones.

Found a solution and thought I would share it:

slip over 3/4" pipe insulation, sells for about $1.00 for 8' at Home Depot and other places. I glued the slip ends together with some contact glue and then used one of those break-off knifes and sliced the pipe insulation like a salami. Some were to thin and not even, but I had plenty left over to practice my slicing until I got all that I needed for my car.

Just thought I would share my idea.

Later,

Isn't that almost the same diameter as a battery connection gasket? Kind of the felt looking ones that are supposed to help aid to prevent corrosion? Could try that for a few bucks..

The battery terminal felt gaskets might work....did not think about them as I wanted something that was thick but compressible so as to make a nice tight fit between the bulb socket and lens. Good idea though.

The pipe insulation worked fine...a bit of a stretch on the glue joint though....but the compression should hold it in place.
