Default C3 Power Windows

Did C3 power windows ever work correctly from the factory ? I've had 4 C3s now with the same power window issues. I just got another 80. The windows don't track up right, they flop around & rattle when part way down. When putting them up they pop out of the rubber at the top. Passenger side goes down fast but up real slow & stops an inch from the top. The drivers side goes up & down fine but pops out at the top. When I get out of the car & close the doors I have to push them into the rubber to seal them. On all 4 of my C3s I've spent hours with the assembly manuals & procedures & have never been successful at getting any of them to work good. Is replacing all the tracks & rollers my only alternative on these things ? Did they ever work good from the factory ?

Of course. They continue to work correctly on my 68 and my 80.

Everything you mention can be corrected by R&R of worn/loose parts and door glass adjustment.

Hang in there...it gets better.

I just got done with the passenger side. New motor & followed the assy manual procedure to the letter. Seems I did good. That one works perfect. Maybe the drivers side tomorrow. Thanks Mike !

I am constantly amazed that powered car windows on ANY 40+ year-old cars work AT ALL!!! Certainly, plastic parts and meshing metal parts will wear from running with each other over that amount of time. You don't suppose that any PO's got in the doors and re-lubed components (as specified in the owner's manual) at required intervals, do you???

No, we ALL just wait until something breaks or doesn't work well enough to satisfy us....they we gripe and go about fixing them. And, most of the time, these things are NOT repaired like they need to be (to last another 40 years)...

Personally, I expect this stuff to fail every now and then. That gives me the opportunity to go PLAY in the garage.

I have the same issue w/ my 81. Doing a complete rebuild on my doors but adjusting the windows has been a real PITA..

Best advice on adjusting:

Door panel off.

All adjustment bolts loose. From inside with the door closed CAREFULLY RAISE THE WINDOW and using suction cup handles wiggle the window to the perfect position, height, tilt, angle, etc in the fully closed position, with the best seal and position you can get with the suction cups. Exit out the other side and check it inside and out. Get it in perfect all the way closed position, and then tighten the adjustments.

You will be VERY close to correct IF your regulators and rollers and tracks are not all worn and sloppy.
