79 Door Handle Hardware
Rather than hijack a current door handle thread I posted this separately. I have the handle out of my 79, I don't believe that the door has ever been apart but would like confirmation that the two stamped steel nuts indeed belong on the handle before it drops into the bracket and the two nuts are threaded below the bracket to secure the handle.
It just seems like an odd hardware stackup, maybe they are to adjust the height of the handle in the bracket?
The stamped steel nuts are identified in the picture with the red arrows.

dont think the Pal nuts are supposed to be there

Some one has been in there before. I have never seen PAL nuts on the door handles before....EVER.

When I replaced the door handle I installed the gasket because it seemed to make sense however from the factory there were no gaskets on the 78/79. Think all the vendors supply them with the handle.
