74 corvette ac just turns on by itself while driving. Before I hooked up the ac the fan would just turn on. I can get it to turn off if I play with the controls. Now that the ac is hooked up it blows cold air even when all the controls are in the off position. I also notice that it only does it when it starts heating up to about 200 water temp. Is this a related issue or is it a short in the wiring. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
There are contact points attached to the side of the heater control head. These work the A/C system. They are supposed to turn ON and OFF as the A/C control wheel is turned as the contact fingers ride on a cam surface. But, the [copper] switch fingers can be bent so that the contacts don't work properly.
The Chevrolet Chassis Service Manual has diagrams and charts describing how those switches are supposed to function so that you can 'adjust' them to work properly. You need the CCSM, an ohmmeter, and a screwdriver to get down to the heater control head.
Thank you very much will look into that. But it will have to wait opened hood to look at a.c.. hood and ac compressor covered in some kind of oil. I am sure it is oil leaking from the ac compressor. Only on the side of air compressor will have to disconnect ac until I find the problem. Here we go again
