On my 79 when I bought it the tach would read zero with the key on, but with the engine started it would always read way high. At 70 mph the tach would be pegged past 7000 rpm. Simple fix right, replace the circuit board! I finally ordered a board for 78-79 and I replaced it yesterday. With the key on it pegged below zero and stayed there. What are the odds that this new board is defective? Reinstalled original board and the reading high issue is still present so I didn't smoke anything. Has anyone seen this problem with a new board? Any ideas would be appreciated.
When I changes my circuit board the tach pegged hard at zero so I pulled the needle off and reset it at zero. Some tach boards have a calibration rheostat so check that first

Did you zero the board out? I don't know where the board you got came from, but my best advice is to NOT mess with the adjustment on the pot adjustment. Just zero it out.
I pulled the needle like your video shows, turned on the key and proceeded to break the needle putting it back. but it still is jumping around. I am sending the board back.
Checked the tach filter seems to be working. Sent the board back awaiting a replacement and received the new needle. The needle looks the same as the original one but when it is on the tach shaft it does not go on tight. The hole is obviously larger. The needle falls off. Contacted Ecklers and they said it should be correct for a 79 and are sending me a new one. Almost a 3 week experience trying to get this tach working so far. If I order a new 79 L82 tach will it come with the board and needle pointer already installed?
