thanks john 65! I think I got mine to work with a gm performance drop base air cleaner one that says Chevrolet 2" filter and no choke horn on the holley, rpm intake on a 454 bbc
1973
l48
stock qjet
edelbrock 2601 performer air-gap
stock hood
edelbrock 14in drop base drops about 1in.
3 inch air filter has atleast 1/2 in.
edelbrocks site says it does not fit but it most certainly does with a drop base
That intake is a hp killer-especially if not directly connected to the outside.
Spectre has options to connect up but I decided to go less expensive (Cheap) at this point and just added the cone filters on the 4" intakes. Being 4", there are plenty of options.

I was told the X-treme air cleaner tops kill HP also. If that were true, had to do with how the air was flowing into the top of the carb as opposed to coming in from the side, can someone explain how/why? Just curious.
Just checked with the modeling clay:
1. 1975
2. SB "355"
3. L-48 Hood
4. Holley Street Avenger, electric choke, vacuum secondaries
5. Edelbrock Torker 2
6. Round 3" x 14" air cleaner. Base has one and a quarter inches drop.
7. Fits easily, tightest clearance is one and three-eighths inches.
Interestingly, the tightest clearance was where the rear of the air cleaner lies under the hood (red circle in picture). This could easily be remedied by filing/removing a bit of the inner panel.
Thanks for starting this thread, I had been meaning to check the clearances for a while as I am wanting to switch intakes.
For those who have made changes, lets see if we can get a list started for reference to help get some good data. Try and keep this format...
1 Year
2 Motor (SB or BB)
3 Hood (L-48 or L-82)
4 Carb
5 Intake
6 Air Cleaner
7 How does it fit? Works or I tried it and it Does not work
1. 1969
2. SBC
3. Stock 1969 small block hood
4. Holley 4150 DP
5. Bow Tie LT1 style high rise
6. Stock drop base open element. 14"X3" element
7. Works fine. As I recall, about 3/4" clearance at closest point. Basically an LT1 setup w/o a carb insulator under a stock SBC hood.
