Tight fit. Without a drop base there is about 1/2" clearance. Rubs the hood insulation a bit. I'd like to put a drop base on it so I can use my little chrome wing nut and not need a 3/8 wrench to remove the nut each time.
I'd like to see some actual measurements for stock hoods. Would have to measure off the block somehow. Say from the top of the block near the oil pressure port, what is the measurement to the hood for a 78, etc?

sb 350 base engine
stock small block hood
Holley double pumper 650cfm
Edelbrock Performer intake
Moroso dropped air cleaner (low profile)
This setup would not fit with the stock wing nut on top of air cleaner. Had to cut the stud down a little and use a hex nut instead of the wing nut. Fits fine this way.

7 - Everything fits great with room to spare. I might look into Pauldana's custom air cleaner snorkel in the future in order to get cooler air to the engine. Cooler air equals more power
Mocked up my engine upgrade for the 6t8. New AFR 195s, Victor JR, Vortec V1 with the air bonnet and guess what, the hood doesn't fit again. Only off by a 1/2" or so.
Mocked up the engine upgrade for the 6t8. New AFR 195s, Victor JR, Vortec V1 and air bonnet. Set the hood on, an it, well you guess it, it doesn't fit. Need to find a shorter bonnet, well it's only money and spring is coming and maybe that money tree I planted last year will bloom. T

if you run a drop base like that with a 2" filter, look inside, you have like a 1/2"-1" only gap where the air passes in the air filter.. you do not want to do that if you are looking for performance.

Doesn't fit (I knew it wouldn't) Going to be adding hood scoop; probably stinger style. Need about 2 to 3 more inches of clearance.
hey guys I know this is a corvette forum but I just have a quick question on a new 97 model Chevy c1500 , I’m going old school putting a big cam and high rise intake with a 750 double pumper on a350 sbc will a cowl induction style hood clear it? Or would I need something custom??

Hood clearance is just about right with the drop base. I couldn't get away with less drop though. I have about 1/2 inch clearance between the air cleaner top and the hood at the shortest distance.

I indicated below I’m running a stock drop base air cleaner. That’s not quite true. Look at the photo, notice the thin stainless tube running from the passenger side valve cover to the air cleaner base. The thick hose on the stock base interferes with the secondary accelerator pump - it’s a double pumper. I bought a new base, cut off the stock hose and fitting, then after fitting the stainless tube into the resulting hole, filled the gaps with RTV. It clears the secondary accelerator pump perfectly, the PCV system functions correctly.
BTW, those are C4 valve covers (and heads). I pried the C4 style crossed flag badge. and what do you know, the C3 badge fit perfectly.

7. Works fine. As I recall, about 3/4" clearance at closest point. Basically an LT1 setup w/o a carb insulator under a stock SBC hood.
