I have a 5.7 GM crate engine I want to install in my 69 vette. It is a year one crate engine and has a casting # of 10243880. from what I am reading it says it uses a reverse flow water pump. Do I need a serpintine belt set up for that or is there another way to set it up with the V-Belt. Also I understand I need a externally balanced flywheel for it do I need to set the weights on that or is it pre-balanced with external weights? Last for now can I use stock 69 vette 350 headers on it, it has vortec heads will the bolts line up?
Thanks in advance for the help just starting to put things together on it plan on swapping this winter.
It's going to need a serpentine belt system. That pump is designed to turn in the opposite direction of the crank. If you want you can use the entire '69 setup on it, original water pump and all, provided the crate heads have all the bolt holes. AFAIK the only externally balanced smallblock was the 400, a 350 is internally balanced, so a nuetral balancer is used. I have vortec heads, the exhaust ports and bolt pattern are in exactly the same position as Gen I heads, albeit higher by maybe 3/8". My headers fit the chassis perfectly.
I've been surfing the net and I think I can use my 69 setup as long as I use a standard water pump. The flow to the engine really makes no difference to the engine. The reverse flow is due to the seep belt positioning only turning the pump rotation in the opposite direction.
How did you get the information that you needed a different flex plate? Unless what you have is actually a 383 stroker, you should not need an externally balanced flex plate.
Post up a spec sheet on the motor or post up the part number from Year One. Just saying you have a crate 350 does not give us enough info to answer all of your questions.
I bought the motor from some guy what I have is the Invoice from Year One. The motor is a CT350PC1, it currently has a flex plate on it. But I plan to run a 4 speed on with it. From what I can tell it is a 1996 350 crate. I've emailed Year One to get more data but I have not heard anything from them. The casting # for the motor is 10243880. The guy had a TH400 on the motor and took it off when he sold it to me, the existing flex plate does have a counter weight on it but not sure if he put the flex plate on it or it came with it. I would guess it came with it. So I'm wondering what flywheel to get for the clutch as the one in my 69 most likely won't fit.

Not all 350's are internally balanced. 1986 and newer (some late 85's were internal/external balance. Neutral balance damper, weighted flywheel or flexplate required. If it is a stock 1 piece rear main seal it requires a weighted flywheel. Here you go. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/fi...et?prefilter=1
Yes it is a 1 piece rear main seal only thing is I need the 153? tooth as the starter bolts are side by side - but know I know it is an externally balanced wheel.
