I have the same thing sitting on a dolly ... I agree with Alan. I would add that when you lift it it, it will be tail heavy. You'll need to place the lift straps more toward the rear of the car to keep it balanced front to back.
I have a three car garage but in a historical neighborhood. Each garage is separated with walls and has a ceiling height of 6'10".
My plan is to store body in middle garage as high as possible, support it with 2x4's bolted to 6" stud walls. It would then have room for rolling frame w/o fuel tank to be stored under it....I am not comfortable leaving body hanging by straps.
Thank you Alan for the response. Light weight tackle should handle the load. 6" ratchet on light weight straps should do it. Four corners to lift. Then support with lumber....Thinking out loud fellas....
bwinterstine, I have followed your build since September of last year. Guys like you, Rvzio, doorgunner, and of course Stinger12....keep me going. Mr. Alan71 makes me proud to be in his species....or am I.....
Regardless, thank you for the input, I bought an engine and trans today and hope I get to your level soon...long way to go....
Hi h,
You can do it too!
It's really a matter of deciding what you want it to be when you're finished and then being willing to spend the time needed to get it there.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan
There's a small restoration shop in western Virginia that has the same garage set up as you describe…. 3 bays right next to each other, but separated with walls. He turns out the most beautiful work I've ever seen.
Assuring words Alan....I can do details and tenacious work with my hands, my other hobby is building and inlaying acoustic guitars. We will see how that translates to fiberglass, steel, and paint!
I used 2X6" and 2X8" for the supports but you only need to raise the body enough to be able to slide the rolling chassis in and out.
We lifted the body in the garage, rolled the chassis out, built the body support while the body was hanging in the garage, and then lowered the body onto the support.

That is so similar to how I'm about to go about lifting and storing my shark's body it's almost eerie. Primary difference is that I'm going to go ahead and raise it up as far as possible (attic mounted hoist) so I can do at least some chassis work when the weather isn't cooperating.

Good idea on lifting it as high as you can to get more work done on bad-weather-days.......with the body high enough, you won't need to wear a hockey helmet to work on the frame!

Well, I might end up in a hardhat while I get used to it, as my garage ceiling is only ~9 feet. FWIW I've decided to go ahead and hang a 4' florescent light fixture under there. Just waiting for the heat to subside a bit so I can rig the chain hoist.

Your on the right track and in good hands if you use this forum for information and advice when needed. I tore apart my first vette using the expertise found here. Question is: Can I get it back together?!!!
