Right now my 74 l82 runs fine but want more power. I plan to get it repainted in 2015 but looking at ready to run engines. I thought about building my own like back in the day but now with 4 kids, impossible with time. Looking at small blocks and street able 450-500. Would like to stay on pump gas and I also have the 4 speed. Any ready to run engine builders you know from experience that won't break the bank?
Thanks all.

But in another post you are worried about a 'miss' in the engine.
I have been shopping around for a replacement for awhile. The replacement is for down the road. Believe me, I would love to just order an engine right now.
I just did this with my L-82 4 speed but you need to make sure that your engine is in good condition-bearings, rods, crank, pistons/rings. I did a complete rebuild with AFR 180 64 CC heads, JE forged racing pistons/rings-flat top pistons 9:1, Howards roller cam-.525/.525, duration 219/225, LSA 110-total compression ratio about 10.2:1 with the Felpro 1094 head gasket. The engine is now a 355 and has tons of midrange torque-cam operating range 1,500 RPM-5,600 RPM. Runs easily with zero detonation on 89 octane gas and is super powerful compared to the stock L-82.

For the power you want, you might as well get a crate.
