Default Correct Wiper/Pump Motor?

First off Happy Labor Day to all. Hope everyone is able to enjoy the holiday.

Secondly, what do I have here? I don't think it's the correct wiper motor/pump assembly for my '68. I have a new wiring harness and it's presented a few challenges with some of the changes made to the car through the years.

It looks like a later year motor. The wires coming out of the grommet, I can't tell but they look as if they go back into the metal can. On a 68 motor the wires went to a three wire connector. (see 4 5 and 6 below).

If the wires go into the metal can then the motor is either 69-72 style or newer motor. The pump on your motor was a replacement pump, you can tell because the pump terminals are flat. The original pumps used bullet terminals. up to 1974. Then after that the pump was in the jar.

The wires on this one go back into the can. There is no connector. With this info is it safe to connect the yellow and blue to the pump as is or will it cause an issue?

typically the blue wire is the ground for the washer pump and yellow is the power. (same yellow on the middle terminal of the 123 connector).

I have to say at this point, with a new harness.... I'd pick up a 68 motor and just eat the core charge. If you have a new harness and the wires go back into the can on the motor, in my opinion you are to have issues. I've never tried to use a new style motor with the older style wiring.

Let me look at the schematic.

If you are using a new harness, you'll have a connector hanging loose.. see the one with the yellow arrow by it in the picture above.

This connector should be on the motor and the male connector version will not have anything to connect with.

What will this cause... unless you wire around this you'll not have any power going to your tach solenoid which operates the vacuum door.
