Default Alternator 1972 Corvette

(Have attached picture of current alternator and wiring) Could someone please confirm the wiring connections on the standard three wire alternator for a 1972 Corvette. I have the correct color wires still (red, brown and black with white strip). The two plug plastic housing is missing that the Brown and B/White strip wires went in and which plug into the alternator. The two connects on the alternator look like "- -" for these two wires. Does the B/White Strip wire go on the left or right as you look at the alternator from the driver side looking toward the front of the car. Also the last people who worked on the car seem to have believe it or not have a substance that looked like Vaseline around the brown and black. white stripe wire connectors. Any suggestions or what to watch out for on installing a new alternator to replace the old one. Also is there a damage of the two wires being connected to the alternator without the plastic housing causing damage or a short. Thanks for the help!!

The brown wire goes on the left, and the black/white goes on the right. Do you have the plastic connector? If not, I think Wilcox has them.
You could crimp on some insulated female spade lugs, or put some small heat shrink on yours.

Thank you very much! I have the plastic connector. As you would expect it is a bit worn and dated but it should work. As I mentioned the last people who worked on it seemed to have put Vaseline in this connector housing. Do you think there was a reason for this? Thanks so much.

Can't explain the Vaseline, unless the person had something on his hands when working on it. Or, it could have been an old power guy and he used some no-ox on the connector.

During my AT&T career, we put no-ox on every ground and battery lug connection in the telephone office.

Tlhat stuff is probably not Vaseline; it likely dielectric grease...meant to prevent corrosion on electrical connections. If you want to put it back on the terminals, just keep it on the metal connections--not on the outside of the connector.
