Default Mufflers

Recently got a 1972 stingray and its LOUD. Now I like loud cars, but this car is deafening at about 3500 RPM. Reason its loud is there are no mufflers, I guess it was an option in 1972 per my mechanic (can't remember what he called it). He says adding mufflers will quiet it, so looked on ebay motors and there are many different kind listed. I don't want it to be quiet, just not as loud. Any recommendations? I attached the link. Thanks.

Magnaflow, Pypes RacePros, hooker aero chambers all flow well and sound decent with relatively lower volume.. Dynomax Ultraflows also flow great and real quiet.

Having an X pipe in your exhaust system will help too..

I have Walker turbos on my '73 , my car was also extremely loud when I bought it. It had AERO TURBINES on it jeeez ! The Walkers look good and sound like a '73 Vette should, and they are cheap.

I use the Corvette Central RPO N11 off road muffles on quite a few Vettes....deep tone but not obnoxious.

Your mechanic is mistaken. All cars had dual mufflers from the factory.

If your mechanic thinks mufflers were optional on your car, you need a new 'mechanic'....

The turbo style will probably be the quietest there are different mfrs that make lower restriction ones. Unless youre making a TON of power and worried about every last hp probably your best bang for the buck

Not sure about a Vette specific model but the Ultraflows can be had in the "oval" or welded ones. The welded will be louder (ask me how I know)
sure sound awesome on wot but they can drone too;every car will be different what rpm they do it.

Check out Stainless Works web site. They sell complete systems in stainless and aluminized. Almost any performance muffler will flow free enough for you. The thing to consider is the exhaust pipes. Look closely. Those Corvette Central kits are crush bent. The pipe diameter will go down to 2" or less in the bends. An exhaust system will only flow as good as its most restrictive point. The only companies I know of that sell MANDREL bent kits for our cars is Stainless Works and Pypes. Beware of trying to make one of these kits fit headers. Talk to the company and tell them what your hooking up to. Stainless Works makes headers, so it's probably possible to buy a complete kit that you could install at home. Let us know what you do.
