Removable rear window glass replacement help needed
Getting ready to install new glass in frame of removable rear that Ive retro fit into my 76.The glass was broken in the frame I have and had to scrape out the pieces in the frame. It looks like it had some kind of rubber in the grove also. Can anyone steer me in the right direction on what to use and the best way to do it? Thanks

Yes...that 'rubber' is called CHANNEL TAPE. I have a lot of it at my shop...because it comes in different thicknesses. I know when I replaced a glass for a 1970 back window frame with a new dated glass....it was FUN to say the least. I had the original back glass and the new glass was not correct....POORLY cut.....and it made a difference. Save the rubber and you will want to measure it so you can get the correct thickness. I believe I used two different thicknesses of my channel tape.
It is a process and would take me way too long to type out.
CLIFF NOTE VERSION:
Tape you channel tape to the glass so it stays put...then begin sliding the frame on and you can use liquid soap...then cut the ends of the channel tape at an angle so when the bottom frame sections goes on...it seals it up. I also uses a bit of my sealant in the corner so prevent and water leaking in to the interior.
I found an auto glass shop and took my '72 pop-out window frame in and asked for replacement glass. Didn't tell them it was for a Vette, and just asked for tinted glass. They did the job, looks great, and it cost only $75.
