Help Brakes!!!???
Today I was driving the '81 for a short trip to work. As I pulled into the last street before my destination I stopped at the stop sign and heard a terrible grinding noise. The last second before coming to a complete stop the car shuddered. I only had a block to go so I decided to get there so I could park in the lot. Pulling into the lot I applied the brakes with similar results. The lot is dirt and the rear tire started dragging as I tried moving forward again. Put it in reverse and it backed up fine and was able to drive forward again. I've never had this issue before. Help please! I've only got 12 miles to drive. Anyone experienced this before?

If i had to guess, a frozen/stuck caliper piston in the rear. Are the brakes original non stainless sleeved calipers or have the calipers been replaced? what about the rear caliper to brakes line rubber hoses, original? The only other thought is the emergency brake components in the rear drum of the rotor.

Yes...my thoughts. it needs to be looked at....and I have seen a mounting bolt that came out of a caliper and it can rotate up and grind on the inside of a wheel...but in reverse.....it lays back down and no sound.DUB
