Default steering column help

Well if your following my build I'm currently doing a lsx 76mm drag car. Now we are working on fabricating the aluminum dash but I have a question on the steering wheel column. I got the steering wheel off and have some options.

1) I can either strip the steering column so it is just a rod (no turn signals, covers, etc)

2) or is there a steering column for our car that is just a straight rod kinda like this.

Worst case scenario we will fabricate our own adaptors for one (I really don't like adaptors anything lol)

I wouldn't hack up a tilt/telescope column. They are getting harder to find. You should be able to find a cheap straight column and sell the t/t column to someone to refurbish. Just my $.02.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I just don't know what I'm looking for on the straight column. Is there a bolt pattern etc that I will need?

I did figure it would be easier to keep it stock tho. Because ignition etch is already wired and I wouldn't have to mess with it. I could just get a grant adaptor and put on a steering wheel.

I converted the other way. My car came with a straight column and a grant wheel when I bought. I found a t/t column and bought a new wheel and swapped them. It's pretty straight forward, no real change parts required. I sold my straight column to a guy who was building a race car.

Yep, i know how to swap them, i just cant find a straight column. Ive searched c3 traight column etc and to no avail. Is there a certain bolt pattern to where it hooks up to the rack? Kinda like you dont just buy a 17" rim you but a 17" 5x4.75"

No there is no special bolt pattern. One side of the flexible coupling goes on the on the steering box shaft and the other on the steering column shaft end. The plate that attaches to the fire wall is the same on both shafts as the one that attaches the shaft to the underside of the dash. Grant will have a kit that will adapt whatever wheel you are looking at the column. The is no special orientation issues with a straight column like there is with a t/t. Also, if you Google C3 Steering Column you'll see a like to Jim Shea's site for all the steering system papers (I think you can also find them here on the forum. He's a memeber). They cover everything and are awesome. Lastly, I would post a "Wanted to Buy" on the "C3 Parts For Sale/Wanted" section for a straight column. I'll bet you'll get a response. I did see one right now on Yogi Bair's website www.bairs.com under Used Parts 68-82 for $250 but its a nice column.

I was actually looking for something not OEM, Kinda like in the picture. See how it is just a rod? If I can't find something I'll just go with the straight column. Out of curiosity how much do these tilt columns go for? Nothing is wrong with it just paint fading.

You can't find a decent tilt/tele for under $500. As for a straight racing column, try Summit, Jegs or Speedway. I think they're about $250.
