I ordered new exhaust pipes from Tracy Performance (2.5") and they came with this bracket that I have no idea where it goes. I don't see it anywhere on my car. I'm sure someone probably tossed it out years ago.
Does anyone have an image of where it goes? I have a 350 Eng and a TH400 trans. I'm not sure if I received the wrong bracket because I don't see any mounting holes. Thanks. Al

I think you have the wrong bracket. If my memory serves me correctly....the bracket that you got is for a four-speed. The center bracket...which is what this is....for your TH400 transmission should actually get bolted to the two bottom tail-shaft housing bolts of the transmission and have a french lock that keeps the 2 bolts used from backing out once the french lock is correctly caged.
This bracket...if you had a four-speed would go BETWEEN the transmission and the transmission mount that gets bolted to the transmission itself.
Hi Al,
That's the configuration of the 3952739 "clamp" used with the M40 automatic transmission.
The AIM shows it mounted to the bottom 2 bolts of the tail shaft, and includes a french lock for the bolts.
It needs to be 'rolled' 90 degrees in the picture. The 2 'arches' that the pipe clamps use to mount the pipes, face forward when the 'clamp' is mounted.
Regards,
Alan
Thank you all very much that clears it up. I was considering removing the transmission cross member support to give it a good cleaning and paint. Does anyone see an issue with doing that? I don't suspect it would have an effect on the structural integrity of the frame while I was painting it but I'd thought I'd ask just to be sure.
Go ahead, it just holds the trans up at this point.
If the trans is still in the car, a sheet of plywood with some padding under the pan will let you take the weight off the crossmember enough to remove the bolts and drop it.
