Cleaning underside
I am nearly at the stage of cleaning the under body, replacing my floor ( it is a 76, the metal flooring and other parts should be in a container leaving L.a Soon .)
At the moment my body is on a wooden frame that has been sitting in the rain/sun for around 12 months. So I need to build a new one that I can bet my life on
.I got the plan of your guys from this site. But I built it very low in height , maybe 1.5 foot high.
So I might build the same thing but maybe a 1 metre high ( um 3 and a bit foot). Never understood inches/feet v's cm

I am going to clean the entire bottom back to metal/glass and then paint.
I am doing this at home, so no sand/soda blasting like most people say on this site.
So what chemicals/ clean products to get it back to base.
Want to get the body to a point where I can lower it to the chassis and bolt it on. Then I can work on the inside and body.
Comments .
It sounds like your plan to raise the body will work.
Make sure the base is wide enough that you can't accidentally knock knock the body off it, or knock the whole thing over.
There was no paint on the under body originally. There was varying amounts of black-out in the wheel wells.
The floor pans and various metal brackets may have had semi-flat black paint or some other plated finish on them.
I'd start cleaning by using a product like Simple Green (or other strong water soluble cleaner) to get everything off that will come off.
Then progress to plastic scrapers and lacquer thinner if needed.
It's a dirty, time consuming job, but quite rewarding if done well and with patience.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan
The fiberglass under body areas can be painted if they do not clean up and look good to your liking. I know I have to do that from time to time due to previous body damage that was not done correctly and I have to get into it again and get it right.
