This is really too bad.
There were 2 groups of numbers/letters stamped into the pad.
The first was done at the engine plant, Tonawanda in the case of a big block. A ' T' for Tonawanda, then 2 numbers for the month the engine was assembled, 1 or 2 numbers for the day, and then 3 letters for the configuration (HP) the engine was built in.
So something like…. T0623CPX.
The second was stamped on the pad in St.Louis and indicates the serial number of the car the engine was installed in.
So something like C11S117017.
I hope you're NOT CONSIDERING RE-STAMPING the pad???!!!

Alan

with everything Alan said, especially about the restamping. The final three letters in the engine assembly stamp would have been CWM, CWR, CWS, or CWT depending on transmission and where the car was delivered. That's sad that engine shops still don't stop to ask people about 'the numbers' before it's too late.

. Better a blank pad than a lame looking counterfeit.
