I have a 72 LT-1 with power brakes. The master cylinder casting number is 546XX48 (the XX digits are illegible). It is stamped "HK" and has a D3 stamp by the forward port. Is this an original item worth rebuilding or should I just replace? Thanks!
Hi J,
I believe the original master cylinder for a 72 pb car would have the casting number 5480346 and a broadcast code of either PG or MK depending when the car was built.
Regards,
Alan
Check the casting number carefully because often the digits are difficult to decipher.
The interesting thing is the third digit "6" is clear with a flat on the left side while the seventh digit "8" also appears quite clear. I'd love my mind to make it 548XX46. I'd post a pic if I was better at that. The "HK" also appears clear.
