I've got a '76 with tilt/tele. steering and the telescope(?) part doesn't hold very well. Is there any to adjust it to tighten it up a bit?
Also my steering wheel is starting to look it's age, anyone like Grant, etc. make a bolt on replacement that will still allow the use of the telescope part of the tilt/tele.?
Yes.
Take the horn button off and you should see a star shaped wheel (actually the head of a bolt). This will have two screws holding the turn ring on. Remove those screws and replece them in another set of holes in the 'star' that makes it tighten better. You'll see when you get in there.
Like I said in another thread here, finding an aftermarket wheel that fits properly and works with tele and horn buttons is hard to do from what I"ve seen....I"d have to have it in hand A vs B before buying...
The 1976 steering wheel, telescoping hardware, and horn parts are unique for that one year only. However, the steering column is identical to the older 1969 through 1975 steering columns.
So get the attaching hardware (i.e. horn parts, steering wheel hub, stamped extension, telescope lock etc) from any 1969 through 75 Vette. Now you can mount an early Vette wheel or any aftermarket steering wheel that is listed for a 1969 - 75 Vette.
