Just for clarification no Corvette ever came equipped with an actual 'copper' tube. They were steel with a copper plating, or plastic as discussed here.

Copper tubing would be a poor choice as it would soon work harden and fail.

That's odd. Because many mid-years I have worked on that were original cars...had a copper line. Non magnetic....and when cut...it was copper through out. Interesting. Something to look at further.

I know about the small short steel line on the big blocks...but the small blocks...that I have seen...were copper or plastic.

And knowing the properties of steel...it will fatigue and crack quicker that copper....depending on the alloy. Which is why the short section of steel oil pressure line on the big block is secured and does not move.

Like I wrote...something to look into further. Thanks for the input.

I am in the process of removing my center bezel and gauges. Can someone tell me the correct way to remove the plastic line where it goes into the gauge? It looks like the line threads into the side of a brass block, with the brass block threaded into the back of the cluster. Just want to ask those with experience so I don't do something stupid.

thanks

Undo the plastic line where it enters the brass block.
