Default Engine I.D.

Purchased a 1976*corvette*stingray*about a year ago. Try to save the waves....love these body styles. Beginning to rebuild engine with some possible mods, tried to identify the engine before tearing it out and wanted to find out what the engine actually was. I tried researching the identification number I recorded off the block and that number is 12B503867 T0816CTK. It doesn't match anything I've found as to finding out what engine I actually have in my car. Can anyone help?!?!*

CTK was used for 1970 370 hp 350, 1972 130 hp 307, 1974 180 hp 400, and 1978 145 hp 305. If you can locate and decode the block casting date, it should give you some idea what you have.

I'm not 100% sure, but CTK shows to be a 1970 370hp 350ci in my black book. The other numbers I can't help you with, sorry.

The 2 in the VIN 12B503867 identifies the year of the car as 1972. The only engine that used the CTK code in that year was 307cu.in/130HP 2bbl. w/auto trans which installed in Chevelle or Nova.

I wouldn't spend much more time trying to decode anything. The numbers will only indicate how the engine was originally built, not what some previous owner(s) did to it over the past 40 years.

I also wouldn't spend money trying to modify it for more power.
