I am installing a NEW cable on my '73 vette with auto trans and would like to know which way it is suppose to go? The one I took off which I assume was the original was installed with the rubber boot on the transmission end of the cable, but I have read that the rubber boot should go to the steering column end when installing it??
Also does the cable need to be lubed before install?, if so, with what??
Thanks for your help...Jack
Hi Jack,
Donnie's picture is correct.
The rubber boot is installed at the transmission end of the cable.
If the cable moves freely now, and continues to, I don't see a reason to lube it.
Regards,
Alan
Due to no seal at the top...so crap and water can wick into the housing. I use silver anti-seize compound and and inject it into the housing and slide the cable back and forth and get it to spread out. Wipe off the excess....slide the boot seal back on and install.
I do the same thing to the cross over parking brake cable.
