Default AC question

Is there a way to test the AC system to see if its just low on 1394a or if there is something else wrong??? The compressor won't kick in... Just blows hot air. I had the compressor replaced last year and it worked fine for a while.. :( The car was switched over to the new stuff...

Only way is to hook up some gauges. That will tell you if there's any refrigerant in it still. If less than 70 PSI, it has probably leaked. If you have atleast 70 PSI, jumper the compressor and see if the pressures are reasonable. Low side 20-35 PSI, high side over 150.

At what range does that pressure switch work. I found that I had 60 PSI with the compressor off but when I turned it on the PSI went down to 0... I put some 1394a in and the compressor on PSI is at 30 now, but I still need to jump the compressor for it to work.. I have a piece of wire inside the connector that goes on the end of the pressure valve..

Either your low pressure cut out switch is bad or not adjusted correctly. There is a small screw in between the terminals of the low pressure switch. Counter clockwise cuts compresser at a lower pressure, clockwise makes it cut out at a higher pressure. If no adjustment works, get a new switch> should be running 22 to 26 low pressures with the engine at 2000 rpms. lou

ok.. cool.. thanks!! I try to adjust it tomorrow. Will the 1394a leak out if I need to replace the switch?

thanks
