Default 1972 rag joint removal

What would be the best way to pull the portion of the rag joint off that connects to the steering column? I have already remove the bolt and the remainder of the rag joint. I would like to be able to pull the flange off the way it sits in the car now.

I had to use a hammer on mine but I am replacing everything so I was not concerned about collateral damage. You may be able to use a slide hammer and prevent damage to the column spline.

Should slide right off. Once you remove the bolt (and have the luxury of not having the steering box in the way) there's nothing to hold it on the column shaft.

I change my mine my 73 and the only way you could get it out is to remove two of the bolts on the steering box and loosen one of them. that way you can tilt the steering box up and it gives you a little more room to get it out

Wedge(big screwdriver) something in the compression slot and spread the flange.

Agree with above posts. You have to completely remove the bolt in each half of the rag joint. Then the halves should slide off. If it is bound up, just spread the flange a bit and pull it off. There could be 'gunk' at the end of the spline binding it, as well.
