Default wheel weights?

Just got my tires mounted and balanced. took my rims off beforehand so the tire place would not damage them. Got home and tried to put rims back on but some of the wheel weights are in the way rim clips now. Can i pull the weights off and use adhesive backed weights more inward on the wheel and still maintain the correct balance using the same .oz weight as the ones on there now or will this screw up the balance?

Definitely a gray area here...

If they were statically balanced, you may be OK to move it as long as longitude is accurately maintained. But, if dynamically balanced, you may be more likely to upset things, as this method takes into account any asymmetric imbalance that may have shifted the tire/wheel assembly's inertial axis away from its geometric axis.

And, bear in mind that while the static method typically utilizes a bubble balancer, don't assume that just because spinning was involved that you necessarily have a dynamic balance. I'd inquire if uncertain.

In any event, my first suggestion would be to have the tires in question remounted in a different rotational relationship with the wheels, and then rebalanced to see if that resolves the issue. Be sure to carry the trim rings with you. My $.02

Yes you can but be very careful to use the exact weight. Use a letter scale if the weight has been trimmed. Of coarse you can move the weight inboard to stick on as long as it's centered on the original weights position. This will work 95% of the time. Very rarely will it throw it off enough for you to feel it.

A little trick for future reference. I don't trust the shops to know how to remove the beauty rings, so I take them off before I go in. I then use a crayon to mark where the clips go and tell the techs not to put any weights near the marks. The last time I was in, the guy taking the request at the counter gave me a puzzled look, the manager looked over and said "Rally Wheels?".

Default Same thing happened to me....

Same thing happened to me, had the tire place balance the tires and of course on two of the 4, the trim ring clips hit the weights.

So, I took the two problem tires back and asked them to put weights on the inside only. I think I read somewhere that GM originally said put weights only on the inside rim.

IMHO, I would not move weights on my own, I would get the tire shop to rebalance with weights on the inside only.
