Default Dynomax VT muffler users would you do it again?

I am thinking about buying a pair of Dynomax VT's but have some concerns about the valve spring lasting. Those who have used them would you buy them again? Did you like the sound? My car is a 383 with long tubes and no cats. Want a some what mellow cruse sound with loud when you hit the loud petal. Other muffler options? Thanks, Dave

I got them 2 years ago. At first I liked them, but after a year and a half they started rattling.

I don't think I'd get them again.

Right now I'm liking the sound of a turbo-style muffler. Have a set of Walker quietflows on it. Also tried Borla which are actually quieter than the walkers at idle but drone real bad at 1500 rpm.

Just curious if anyone has ever put a pressure gauge on those mufflers. Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't they require some amount of backpressure to overcome the spring and open the valve?

Yes, but the spring is very weak. I can't imagine it will reduce power any. The problem I saw was that the flap goes from closed to open for every exhaust pulse at idle. That's what wears it out and makes it rattle.

I originally had magnaflow and hated them.

Switched to the spintech pro street 6000s. I cannot tell you how much I love these mufflers absolutely awesome. Great rumble around town and when you break 3000 RPMs they absolutely scream.

Any droning/resonance at low rpm?

Some said the VT'S had an early spring problem that was later fixed. They also don't recommend them for high hp applications.I would think that they would perform better with the muffler at the rear and be less likely to flap open/shut.
I have been thinking of one for my 5.2 liter Jeep project with a 3" single exhaust.Hearing these stories makes me second guess myself.

Ya, that's what I was afraid of. Logic tells me that after so many heat cycles that spring is going to lose it's temper and be weaker. Thanks, I guess I'll keep looking for a nice sounding turbo muffler.

I have the Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers on my 68 427/390. No drone at cruise and they give you a nice American muscle car sound when you jump on it. They are a little on the quiet side IMO but slightly louder than stock. They do flow well. They may be what you are looking for. I have had them on the car for about 8 years with no issues.

I went with magnaflow 2 1/2" polished stainless mufflers, headman headers & custom stainless exhaust. Sound great and no drone.
