Default Stock Wheel Fitment

So I'm removing the aluminum wheels and installing new tires on the stock wheels that came with this project car. But it seems to me that the hub to wheel clearance is non-existent. I mean really tight. Is this normal?

I hope these wheels belong to the car. The date stamp on them make sense that they are. Now I had them powder coated, so perhaps that makes the difference in making the opening a bit smaller.

Anyway, bolting the lug nuts on seems real hard. They do spin true once tightened down.
Any thoughts?

Thanks.
Steve

The area that you are concerned with is supposed to be a tight fit. ACTUALLY more of a slip fit. so cleaning the outer surface of you rear spindles and the front hubs may help. You actually wan this area to be a good slip fit so eh hub and spindle are centering your wheel and this takes all the stress off of your wheel studs....VERSUS...you going in and opening up the area on each wheel so you have a lot of clearance. I assume they are 15 X 8 wheels. AND I have had a few Corvettes over the years where the wheels were hard to get off....but once I cleaned up the surfaces a bit...the wheels went on as designed.

Thank you sir. A tight fitting wheel is good.
Yeah, 15 X 8. 225/70R were the closest (read afford) I could get to the G70s' on the door sticker. They ride great, but then I've never had a brand new tire that didn't.
