Really nice job. Just goes to show that pride in workmanship and good craftsmanship is not dictated by budget.
Thanks Scott. It isn't the monster builds you see but it is a real nice street build that will fit the intended use. Wish I could afford a dyno run. Might surprise some people.
My guess he will use it awhile then sell it off. While he does some aftermarket large bore aftermarket block deal. Has to be a SBC he just seems like SBC man.
I'm thinking of going over to the dark side. Temptation from a neighbors block.
I got a 454" in the garage on a stand, one day either a 496" or a 477" maybe even procharged, who knows.
I had a 4 bolt 454 block had it since the late seventies. A former neighbor and friend around 4 yrs ago drooled all over it one to many times and i sold it to him and two steel 427 cranks i had, still regretting it. Neighbor across the street has a standard bore 4 bolt main 351 Cleveland block. Have always liked that engine. Maybe i should go over to the dark side, ford dark blue god i hate that color on an engine lol. The only time my hands have touched a Ford my father had me rebuild a ford autolite carb on his 429 mercury. Owned 4 fords just never had to work on one.

Whats the reason for the build what happened to your 383 ?
Still have it, and the T56 and the Tom's differential trailing arm to trailing arm. Might have to sell it all. Got well over $20,000 invested. Can't quite get myself talked into doing it yet. Things might change soon with my job. If they do I might sell this build. Still debating. Might dyno this too, haven't decided. I miss building engines. It has been a passion for 40 years and I am really, really curious on the power this will make. I have only been doing a build or two a year recently. Used to do a lot more. All my precision tools were stolen.

Try not to sell it find some other way to make ends meet has to be a way.
With the low 9.8 to 1 compression ratio, small valve heads, and short camshaft duration I'd bet around 320 at 5800 rpm. To get an honest 1 horsepower per cubic inch you'll need an 11 to 1 compression ratio, 2.02"/1.60" heads, and a cam with at least 244 degrees duration.

I got fed up with Vettex's constantly harassing me and calling me names. No room for that kind of childish behavior in any forum. I quit on Sunday afternoon and the poop hit the fan. Agents have been e-mailing me and begging me to come back but its their fault it happened.

This one was off Craigslist, just a rebuilt short block. Got the receipt from the original purchase and some parts. Checked cylinder wear, and pulled a couple caps. It looked like it was just broke in. It was a deal but I looked a long time to find it. Still have the serpentine setup that came on the front to sell so I will be closer to my $2500 goal. Could have came in cheaper but was looking for some bling also.
I have to say reading through this thread I found a lot of similarities between my $1,500 craigslist/ebay build and your build... only when i was building mine I got a lot more flack for spending so little.... I too bought a $300 shortblock from Craigslist. With less than 7k on it. Ihad to replace the cam,and crank along with the bearings.
I have about 1,500 miles on it now and so far it runs great. chinese tach drive distributor, skip white waterpump and all...
