Can I install a long water pump on my vette? 1978 Corvette
Not if you plan on having any belts on it. The pulleys will not line up and then you would have to try to find a pulley that would work....and if you try to extend out your crankshaft pulley....you may have an issue with the cradle now getting in the way....and forget about doing anything with the power steering pump pulley.
Honestly I do not see a reason to change it to a longer one...but you did not add anymore to your post but a basic question....so it is all guess work.
You can bolt it to the engine but nothing will work that attaches to the front of the engine....ALL Corvettes whether BB or SB engines use the short pump....period.....

Just make sure the short pump will not jamb against the face of the timing cover.....there should be a small gap between the two covers when the new pump is bolted in place
Short pumps come in two different lengths/hard to notice/ from the back cover of the pump to the engine block depending on the year----I think....the correct pump will bolt on without having to add extra gaskets.
You can, anything can be done but I think the question is why, and what would it accomplish when completed, compared to the original set up ? All brackets and pulleys would need to be changed.
