Default Engine overheating.

On long trips the engine seems to run hot. My brother wants to get an aftermarket radiator with an electric fan to solve the problem, just wondering about opinions/options on that.

Also the AC does not work from whoever owned the car previously and the belt is gone for the compressor. I was wondering if it would be a good idea to get rid of the compressor weight, eliminate the radiator fan and get rid of the AC condenser which seems to block the radiator while installing a new electric fan radiator?

Thanks

The radiator replacement is a good idea. I have DeWitts in my 75 and 71. It would be nice to have ac though. If you change the radiator, it would be a good time to check the condenser. Are you racing, the reason you want to drop the weight a few pounds? Unless there is a problem causing the heat to rise, a good radiator, electric fans, thermostat and hoses should have you running much cooler.

What does your gauge read? Is the air dam installed and in good working order? You say it overheats "on long trips". Does this mean it happens when you are at freeway speed?

The air dam top of the radiator too, along with all the foam pieces that direct air THRU the radiator, not around it.

I did not catch the year, but make sure the tranny goes into overdrive and the torque converter is locking up at speed.

You need to find the reason that it's running hot rather than just covering up the problem.

It didn't come from the factory with an overheating problem. To zero in on the problem, we need more info as to when it overheats. For example, in traffic, on the highway, etc. It could be something simple such as the thermostat, fan clutch, clogged radiator, low coolant level, air dam sealing problem, etc. Lastly, you say it seems to run hot. What does that mean?

You may not have a problem. Your car might be running normally.

Why not install the belt and get the AC system running?
