Default Power Steering Pump

From the pic, can this pump be rebuilt or is that flat area a problem?

So far I have not been able to separate the 2 parts, and I wonder if the flat area is the reason

Thanks

Hard to say if it can be rebuilt and not leak. I ASSUME that you have all the fasteners and fitting off on the backside????

The flat area may give you a little bit of trouble. I have stopped wasting my time on pumps...because if they leak...the time I spent was wasted and for me doing this all the time...I do not have time doing things twice or three times. UNLESS the owner wants the original....then they pay for however long it takes me to restore their pump.

It is slow process to begin by securing the cast section of the pump without damaging anything and then I try to rotate the reservoir a little and slowly work it off.

Everything is off the backside.

I think you're right. Probably better to use as a core and not have to worry about the flat spot causing a problem.

I'll probably take it to spring Carlisle and trade it in.

Thanks

The flat part is sheet metal, right? It's just the flared lip on the reservoir, right?
You should able to rework/bend it, then pull the 2 pieces apart. If I remember right, there is a o ring seal behind that lip.
Give it a try, and if it doesn't look real good, trade it in.

My recollection is that after you undo the pump outlet/inlet fittings, the "reservoir" slips right off very easily. The reservoir is also known as the spam can, or the ham can. There's a large diameter O-ring that seals the "reservoir" to the cast iron body. Before you disassembly the pump, you might want to order another O-ring. It only costs a few dollars if I remember correctly.
