1972 3970010 block casting code info
To the right of the casting clock is another circular type code that has 3 letters around the outside: they appear to be a D T and N, with a stamped pointer on the inside that points to one of these 3 letters. Does anyone know what this casting mark is for?
Lastly, just to the left of where the Cast Date is on my block , J261, are a couple of small round casting marks with a 3 in between. What's this 3 signify? Right after this mark is my casting date.
Thanks
Joe
You're looking at the 'casting clock'.
The foundry kept track of both the hour and shift the block was cast.
D, T, N, stands for Day, Twi-light, and Night.
The clock represents the hour with in the shift that the block was cast. The slot in the screw points to the hour.
Interesting!

Alan
