So I was reading a letter to Corvette Fever in the SharkBites section and now I am confused.
When my Vette gets to operating temp and I shut it off it wont re-start when I turn the key. It wont do anything, nada. I have to wait till it cools off. Then it starts normally.
Am I suffering from Heat Soak and will one of those little starter blankets do the trick.
The Magazine said something to the effect of mounting a remote solinoid or getting a mini starter.
I am using Dynomax Ceramic headers.
What do I do?
I solved it by going to a mini starter. Starts fine hot or cold. Some have insulated it and some have a remote seloniod location. Why not shave a couple of pounds and get a mini starter.
Happens to me. I tap my silenoid with a putter that I now keep in the Vette and it starts right back up. Starts cold %100 of the time, but when it's hot....putter time!
Yah, the guys at work get a good laugh out of it...them with their reliable Toyotas and all. :-)

I bought and installed the Hot Shot, a new product from Painless Wiring, for $22.06 that allegedly solves this problem. I've been using it for two weeks now, and it works. It kind of combines the best features of a remote solenoid with a relay to boost the amperage to the solenoid when it's hot. Really pretty clever; takes about 15 minutes to install. I was kind of concerned that it might nuke my Pertronix electronic ignition conversion, but all seems well. If it works in Texas heat, it will work anywhere.
If you go with one of those high dollar high torque starters, be careful. The guy I bought my car from put one on less than a year ago. The starter and solenoid were almost $300. It worked great though. Never had a bit of trouble starting when hot. Sounded like a race car when you crank it.
I fried it last week just trying to jump it.
I took the cheaper route and installed a new Delco unit. $100 or so. When it is hot, it drags a bit for a second or two and then fires up. Sounds like my wife's Suburban now until she fires up. Ha HA.
