I pullled out my spark plugs to check them today ( about 500 miles since i put them in) Cylinders # 1,7,2,4 appear to be lean and cylinders # 3,5,6,8 appear to be rich and have lots of carbon build up. This pattern seems completley random to me but maybe it means something to someone who knows more? Any ideas on what i need to try tunning first? Im running a Performer 600 and a Wieland Stealth intake if that helps. Thanks
Re: Help Needed : reading spark pulgs (Jester69Stingray)
I've had similar problems with dual plane intakes before - they don't always color the plugs evenly.
Double check your carb idle mixture - make sure both sides are even. If they are, you might try richening up the passenger side a little bit - that side of your intake feeds 1 7 and 4 which are your lean cylinders. However, you would think 6 would be lean also if that's the case but it'd never hurt to try. You might also try leaning out the driver side since it feeds most of your rich cylinders. Install clean/new plugs and see what happens.
If that doesn't work, you might have to mix heat ranges on your spark plugs to get them to color right. First set your mixture for best overall plug color - then go a heat range hotter on your rich plugs and colder on your lean.
