My dad bought one of these for our '68 and tried to install it one day while I was at work. One side fits in and looks much better, but the other side will not go all the way to the windshield. The instructions are very general and show a different car in the pictures. Is there a trick here or did we get a bad piece?
I don't know anything about them what-so-ever but did you try removing the pillar post trims and see if it fits better with them out of the way?
Those trim pieces were drilled on assembly so different cars could/would have slightly different locations on them. Installing them afterwards, even if you needed to slightly adjust them might allow the dash piece to fit better.
Just a thought

I thought about that - I took two screws out of the top but could not find anymore. Any idea where they are?
I don't know about 68 but my 72 has 2 screws, both at teh top end, one goes up the other goes forward (one from the sun-visor)
Then there are two of those plastic velcro fasteners down the actual pillar that hole it on. Maybe check your AIM to see if it's different
