Default 71 Head Upgrade

I have a stock / base 1971 350. I need a valve job and I'm considering just doing a head upgrade to improve HP.

Is there a stock appearing direct bolt-on upgrade for my stock heads?

I want to maintain the stock look and do not want to perform any other upgrades. Are there any head swaps that would give me the stock look and still improve Horse Power?

OR....is there a way to have a machine shop to significantly improve my existing heads?

Install aluminum heads and paint them.

Edelbrock makes some with 100cc chambers and stock location exhaust ports. They're aluminum but with some orange paint they'll look kinda stock. '71 BBC came with 113cc chambers so going to 100cc will bump compression a bit even keeping the stock pistons.

Zwede.....my car is a SBC, not a big block. Will the heads you referenced work on a small block?

Ooops. Dunno where I got BBC from.

Plenty of SBC choices, iron or aluminum, but I don't have any specific recommendations. Been years since I picked SBC heads and there's so much more on the market these days.

I like my world products Torquer II w/67cc chamber, pocket ported and unshrouded vlvs. RHS has some iron
heads of their own design. Dart has a selection of iron heads some CNC ported. Then theres Dart SS iron eagle heads w/67cc chambers with vortec style head (needs vortec intake). Or even Chevys own vortec head w/64cc chambers. EQ heads are the latest in value perfromance sbc heads.
Stock looking is up to u. None of these heads will fool a car show judge. But good luck converting them just for looks.

I think those would all be an improvement over your stock iron heads. And ya know every time i read of someone porting and re-studing a stock head they say they wish they had just spent the money on good aftermarket heads.

Hope this can help.

Dart Iron Eagle Platinum Series Cylinder Heads, better than anything that Chevrolet put on them back in the day and a big improvement over what you have. Great value for the money. You can certainly buy better heads, but you will also pay accordingly, as you should expect. They offer different versions of this head at slightly different prices.

Look at the summit/dart 152123 cast iron large valve 72 cc modern chamber heads with screw in studs and .525 lift springs. $630 shipped to your door. Have a set on my carbed c4 and they work great compared to my old crappy 624 heads.
