I repaired the fiberglass on my driver's door (1970 conv). There had been several holes made in the door to accommodate different mirrors thru the years. I now wonder if there's a template showing where to correctly drill the new holes, or if somebody can give me rough measurements on where to drill. I'd really like to prevent the screws hitting the window glass inside the door. Thanks in advance! -Lee
Hi Lee,
Originally there was a metal tapping plate with 2 threaded holes mounted to the inside of the door's fiberglass skin.
Do you know if it's still there? Look carefully.
It's likely it is because it's pretty difficult to get to in order to remove.
It's mentioned and shown in the AIM but not located with dimensions. It was put in place when the outer skin was bonded to the door frame.
UPC 1 ASM, Sheet F25.
Regards,
Alan
Thanks Alan, I'll see if I can find the plate from inside the door. I always come to this forum a few times a year since 2005, and you are always here with the best answers! Thanks a million Alan for always "being here!" -Lee
