Default Rear spring

72 sits too high,i put long bolts on but they are about 1 inch from the tires. I think it is an aftermarket spring.

A guy has an original spring that has the straight top 3 leafs,
Any opinion on swapping these? Just a crapshoot right? It might go too low? I just need to move a lot, basically drop the body 2 more inches and go back to the original bolts, thats about a 4 inch move.

He only wants $75 bucks , so worth a shot?

Hi s,
The configuration of the spring in your photo does appear to indicate it's an aftermarket spring.
If the leaves on the spring you're considering don't display any surface pitting I'd say it's worth the $75 'gamble'.
Regards,
Alan

Corvette central shows a 7 leaf and a 9 leaf spring.
Says both fit 72. Whats the difference? Does the 7 sit lower?

I have the composite from vbp and it's adjustable ride height wise.

Hi s,
I believe the standard spring in your 72 was the 9 leaf version.
I believe the 7 leaf spring was part of the F-41 heavy-duty suspension package that was only available with ZR-1 option in 72.
I think I'd start by talking to Muskegan Brake about an original spec spring.
Regards,
Alan

Has 225/70 now, but wanna try 245/60 if they will fit front also. And clear the ebrake mount at rear.

Sorry for the slow reply, but the bolts at the end of the springs are longer and have threads 2/3 of the way up, you can adjust height by how far you screw the bolt on.

the 7 leaf spring has a tighter radius arch while the 9 leaf has a less pronounced arch. the 9 leaf may help the rear end sit lower.

Got the original spring, and it still sits a little high. So, i had to use the longer bolts, but over all , its a softer spring and wth weight in car should get me 2" lower..

Is the engine and transmission in the car? If not it WILL sit real high until the engine and transmission are put back in. And what size of tires are you running in the rear? They look pretty tall in your picture.............

Everything in except doors and seats. 225/70tires.
Thats what i was after...i wanted to put 255/60 all around , but theres 1/2" space between tire and end of spring. And with the spring end near the bulge in the tire and not closer to the rim, it would make me nervous. So, ll just buy 225/70 again...theres a small chance that with everything in car and me. I might get to go to a shorter bolt. If tha happens i might go . 255/60.
