Another engine build
I'm putting this out here for any advice/comments. The start is a .30 over 454, with about 10.5:1 comp, balanced rotating assembly, I'm gonna use my 781 heads that has had a sorta recent valve job so they seal great now, Edlebrock performer 2 intake, Holley 800 dp, OBX side pipes.
What the plan is, maybe a three angle job and clean up the ports/bowls on the heads.
A Comp Cam kit, http://www.summitracing.com/parts/cca-k11-420-8, that includes almost everything.
Keep the Performer 2 intake and use the Holley 800...
As of now, the stock gears will be used, 3.08 along with the close ratio stock 4 speed.
So, any thoughts of how this set up may work? I have this cam selected for it's rpm range with the stock gears.

Looks like a good match, if your going to work on the bowls and runners maybe buy a cc kit measure the size of the first after you clean it up to keep all the other runners close to the same size. The big block I've got in the garage has 781s on it and the research I did on them shows they respond well to port work, mark Jones uses them to make phenomenal power, but he's a master heads and engine building, plus who knows how many hours he puts into them. I don't think so, on my 400'' with afr heads and roller cam I run a prosystems 780 double pumper that according to prosystems flows 820 cfm. I ran my 650 cfm vaccum secondaries on it to see if it would gain bottom end and the the 780 dp ran just as well on the bottom end and was superior on the top end.

A 750 cfm carburetor is all you need on a 454" like yours. I'm running a 236/236 degree .560" lift cam in mine and the secondaries will open about 95% under a full throttle at 5500 rpm so its a perfect match for my setup. More cam and higher revs would dictate a larger carburetor......................

It runs fantastic. With it's 10 to 1 compression ratio it'll run great on 91 octane. I'm running a beefed TH700R4 with 3.70's (2.62 final drive ratio) and it cruises at 60 mph at only 2040 rpm.
