Engine Stalls when placed into Gear
I am looking for some advice as I am stumped. I have just preformed a rebuild on the top end of my motor, new heads, new fuel pump, rebuilt the carb and adjusted idle perfectly, adjusting the timing, etc etc...
Took the car out for a drive and she preformed beautifully! Came home and parked it.
4 Hours after I wanted to take it out for a drive. The engine was cooled down and I started the car with 1 turn of the key and she idled up to 1600rmp.....perfect! I let it warm up till the choke kicked off and threw her into Drive only for the engine to stall out in a second.
I thought it was a fluke so I started it again in park, let it idle for a bit at 1500rpm till it was steady under 200 on the temp and through the car into drive again.....STALLED AGAIN!
I tried this a few times only to have the same result. The 4th time I gave it gas to keep running and drove down the street but she ran like a bag of ****...
Pulled in the drive way popped the hood and no plug wires are off everything looks good with the carb. Put a vacuum gauge on and didn't see any worry about leaks.
Could I have done something to the Torque Converter? Did my timing **** up, I havnt checked yet as it runs so good in Park or Neutral.
Any idea folks? I have a giant C3 paper weight right now....
In gear idle was adjusted to 750rpm. It was perfect the first time I took it out for a run. Now it just stalls out putting it under any load.
Let me provide some additional information
1978 Corvette
- Comp Cam 268H
- Hooker Headers w/ 4" SidePipe Exhaust
- Dart Iron Eagle S/S Heads #10024266A
- Carb was rebuilt 2 weeks ago but is still the stock Q-Jet
- New Fuel Pump, Plugs, Wires, T-Stat
All parts are still original except for what is listed above.
I was reading up on the TH350 installed on this car and it does not have the lockup converter
