Opinions may vary but driving a car up hill is considered being under a load depending on the hill and how far up it goes and hardly a 70 mph breeze.

I don't recall what you did about the thermostat, but if it is installed upside-down, it will create significant cooling problems.

Also things do break or go bad, so how something is last year does not mean it will be the same the following year.

It turned out to be 2 things. I found a vacuum leak (Carb gasket) and I re-bled the system and got some more air out. I also replaced the fan clutch just because. I thought that was the final fix. The engine idles great even with the A /C on. I took it for a ride and the temp was still up to 205 under heavy load so I decided to check the accuracy of the NEW temp gauge I installed last year. Purchased a laser thermometer at H.F. and the temp at the water neck is 190 when the gauge reads 205 which from what I have read is normal. Hope this helps someone else! Thanks for all the advice!
