i have a 76 and have replaced the turn signal switch, upgraded both flashers and bwhen the right turn signal or emergency flashers are used the fuse pops, anybody have any clue wher to look next or have a line for troubleshooting, the left turn signal works fine and the right will flash once maybe twice.. HELP me im goin crazy
Test the dark blue wire from the right harness and check for ground continuity. There is short to ground in there somewhere. It may not be near the lamp but that will confirm its there.
With your hazards on...you are lighting up your right turn signal light bulb...so that is why it is blowing the fuse....the reason the LEFT side is working is BECAUSE that circuit is OK. SO if you LEFT side will blink until you drain the battery....then you KNOW you flasher is fine...so that is NOT an issue.
You have a problem in your right turn signal circuit. It may be in the column...or a wire in the system some wheres else. AND you will be wanting to look at BOTH wires coming out of your turn signal switch that work your fight turn signals ( front and rear)
You can disconnect your rear body wring harness connector that powers up your rear taillights and check your turn signal and see if the fuse blows. IF it does not...and the right turn signals in the front work perfectly...then you have an issues in your right rear lights somewhere.
ALSO....the same filament in the bulb that makes your turn signal shine...is the SAME filament that makes your brake lights shine. PRESS you brake pedal and I bet it should blow that fuse.
Test the dark blue wire from the right harness and check for ground continuity. There is short to ground in there somewhere. It may not be near the lamp but that will confirm its there.
But if you are going to check the dark blue wire to see if it is going to a ground...you must remove the light bulb in the rear...and remove the one in the dash (tachometer) for your indicator. IF you do not...the dark blue wire will show to be grounded...and this is because it is getting a ground path through the filament....which is also attached to the brass socket of the bulb itself...that goes to a ground to make the bulb work.
Right as usual DUB. I forget not everyone has a wiring diagram in front of them.
SAD thing is I don't have a wiring diagram in front of me here at home...actually it is BURNED in my brain because I spent a long time in the past when I was younger and figured it out...and when I did...I felt like an idiot when I stopped and actually thought about it.
If a person is going to do work on their Corvette.....outside of the tools they will need to get the job done correctly ( such as a volt/ohmmeter)....they need to have a wiring diagram and know how to read it.....an assembly manual...and a GM service manual.
So if a person is reading this and 'you' fit into this category...and do not have any information sources that will aid you....I suggest you spend some $$$ and buy them.
Nothing is worse than trying to help someone who does not have the simplest of things to help THEM out.
