So I'm working on getting my diff out to be sent in for rebuild as it's got a broken stub axle/yoke. So my question is as long as I have to remove the mono spring is this a good time to replace it with one of the fiberglass units? If so then which one? My car is an L82 coupe and the metal spring was replaced not that long ago milage speaking. Attached pix are what the PO had the shop install.
the 21-225 is a standard 9 leave replacement steel spring, it is not a mono leave spring, that term only applies to single leaf springs made from fiberglass. To determine which fiberglass spring to use you have to decide what you are going to do with this car and what your handling versus soft ride priorities are? You also have to use a decent gas shock absorber with the fiberglass spring.

MelWff,
Thanks for the reply & the schooling on the nomenclature (didn't know that ) and about the shocks which also need to be replaced at some point as well, maybe now?
Pretty much just trying to make the car a decent runner for weekends and such. Would like a little more performace from the CE replacement engine as it seems a little lethargic. The other thing is that the rear sits a little high which I understand I can lower the spring nuts some to help with that, got about a couple of threads left. Or I seen/heard folks use a 7 leaf spring as well, which I'm guessing would have the same effect?
If you have a monspring, do you need to replace it? They're not supposed to wear out.
Easy Mike,
Thanks for your reply. The former PO's paperwork might suggest that it was replaced due to the car was lower on the left side, not really sure, but if so may not have fixed the leaning issue as there are about a dozen shims on the left rear body mount to raise the body I assume?
Don't the metal spring fatigue over time/milage, cars got 84K.

Thanks again. You are correct, probably won't ever seen the track. Thanks for the links. Looks like the 330# mono spring is a little less ($10 lol) and the Bilstein's are the sport model. I've read on here that some have said to get the HD's vs. Sport model. Thoughts?
