Default Wiring question

I'm slowly making progress on my LS swap.

I'm cleaning the engine bay wiring harness and removing wires that are not needed any more.

I'm removing the old black tape and re-taping.

Question. On the red wire that runs across the fire wall and down to the center stud on the starter. About 18" from the stud the red wire has black wire attached. Kind of like a "t" junction. I'm not sure where it goes or what is it's function. I couldn't find it on the wiring diagrams. Any ideas?

I Think the clever electrician have worked. The red wire from the starter goes up straight to a relay on the left side of the Engine compartment. It even works as a shunt for the am meter. Perhaps someone needs a + Connection (choke ???????).

That black wire that is 18" or so from the starter is called a fuseable link.

If I am reading correctly what you are seeing.

Post a picture.

Mine is a 69 and did some customizing to my new harnesses to remove the resistor coil wire so i could run HEI right off the harness and replace my fuseable links with #6 wire with inline fuse due to my electric fans and 140amp alternator.

See my red wire that I removed from my harness.... does that black wire look like what you are talking about?

It really looks like it came from the factory that way. Original tape the way it looks. It's crimped and soldered connection.

If it's off the red wire, it's always hot. Someone in the past probably installed an alarm and did a professional job of splicing a power lead-rather than the usual bubba work.

It could be constant power lead for the alarm. It's definitely 12 volt all the time.

I will try and get a photo.
