Default 77 floor pan (first timer) pics.

So I finally got my pans in. Well the driver side, passenger is back ordered. From the information I gathered on here you basically just lay it in there l, trace around the new pan, cut a half inch lower to leave room for a lap weld. My question. Is what if I need to cut up underneath the door sill? doesn't look removable. Do I just cut it out?

That's the door sill in question

You are aware that the a Corvette Forum has a section where ANY paint and body questions can be posted.

With 132 views and only one reply....and it was a comment for 'saving the vette'....posting it in the 'Paint and Body' section would get a more direct answer.

QUESTION:
Not meaning to **** you off...it seems that I have to be so darn careful in hurting/offending peoples feelings.....BUT..

What is you skill level??? Do you have the appropriate tools...and can you weld CORRECTLY???

I have done many of these floor pan replacements...and I know how to do it.....so that is why I am asking so I know how to communicate with you.

Hey dub, wasnt aware of the other paint/body section. you've answered some previous post on here, kinda in the same manner about not wanting to hurt peoples feelings, but its okay, hurt mine, lol as long as I get it fixed, forget my feelings. Yes I'm equipped. I'm a welder by trade, I can mig/stick or even tig the damn thing if I wanted to be pretty about it. Obviously I'll mig it. Just worried about that sill and if I need to cut it off. Something I've never done is fiberglass work. Just looking for some advice man. Once again, thanks

I did not want to hurt you or any of that. I can not keep up with what everyone does for a living...so if we have been through this before. I apologize.

You being a welder then I do not need to tell you anything about welding and metal prep.

From your photo..I am a bit concerned about the integrity of the steel and how badly rusted it is where you are going to be welding it.

Take good photos and measurements from the underside and see how the floor pans clear cross members, exhaust pipes etc.

YES...you can 'somewhat' set the floor pan inside the car and mark it and cut it out...AND obviously you know all about giving yourself MORE steel...so if needed...you can always cut more off...but it is a BEAR to add it back on.

The door jamb area really has me concerned....due to the rust

YES...I can not tell how your floor pans are shaped in regards to the fiberglass at the door opening....so YES...if the steel is really rusty and bad. And with your new floor pan section, this rust at the door sill area is where you need to weld..... Then the fiberglass will need to be cut and the floor pans installed and the section of fiberglass re-attached.

So..I know this may not actually answer your question to where to actually make a cut in the fiberglass....I need your feed back or a photo of where you know your new floor pan will stop on the door sill area.

Trying to provide you with some answers...but more info needed.

I can't get any pics right now. But obviously the door sill has to go. Which was my question. I have no exhaust on the car. What about getting the new pan in and aligning every hole for the seats and what not.basically just keeping it square
