I'm ready to order carpet for my 68. I have heard ACC carpet is very good but thin and that Al Knoch is the best quality for thickness and wear. I was looking at Mid America Motorworks carpet (not sure who makes theirs) that comes with Foil Backed Heat Shield and Sound Deadening Underlay in the front and thought that was a nice addition for the price but not sure of the carpet quality and whether any one has experience with their carpets. Ive seen some with juke padding others with foam etc. Not to belabor a topic with many opinions but suggestions are appreciated before I buy.

Contact Mid-America and ask who manufactures their carpet. Knowing who makes it could help to determine quality.

I believe those are the only two molded carpet manufacturers. I chose ACC as my original padding/backing was fine and I was able to reuse it which made ACC the more economical choice for me. (I did pick AK for the seats though).

See my thread in General section.

Hi Nick,
Are you saying you, (MAM), has a carpet mill, or do you buy the carpet in rolls in order to produce your carpet sets?
Regards,
Alan

Got your carpet sample. The brown carpet is much lighter in color than the original stock tobacco carpet in my car. you also did send me a swatch of brown leather type material # 28. That dark brown color matches my vettes carpet. If you put your carpet sample next to the leather sample you will notice the shade difference. Can you supply a carpet that is darker to match the stock tobacco brown color?

My 78 with an Oyster Int. Purchased from Mid America. This was a expectable fit. But here is what I noticed over the past 5 years. The carpet hairs are starting to get brittle and can over time thin out from constant vacuuming. Also I had some floor mats made to match. After a carpet cleaning and additional vacuuming thinning got worse.

Other things to look at is UV protection / fading. I am lucky with a oyster color I will never notice fading. Its not as good as the factory carpet. My color match again wasn't perfect. I didn't match the carpet in the door panels but again Oyster dosn't show the problems.

If you are keeping the car for many years, then how long the fibers wear and resistance to color fading need to be #1.

Fit and color match #2.

Get samples before you purchase this will be your best way to know what you will get. Ask others about fading etc.

I ve had the car since new so yes I will be keeping it for awhile. Anyone have a recommendation/experience on a quality carpet. Seems the only choices are ACC and Knoch. Gotten samples from all but none seem to match carpet quality of original carpet.
