differential, is this normal?
Hi. Well I'm in the process of replacing the rear leaf spring in my 74. Losened all 4 bolts that mount it to the diff, removed the driver side bolt that goes into the case, not the one into the ears on the diff. Then moved on to the one one the passenger side of the case, and when it came out so did all the gear oil in the case. Is this normal, and or a problem?
Thanks Brent

Someone used to long of a bolt and it went into the case. Common problem for someone who does not know. Yes this will be a problem as it can possibly leak down the road. You can try sealer around the threads but a replacement cover is the fix for this problem. There is a picture floating around of the inside of the cover showing the bolt piercing the cover.

the bolt was to long and put a hole in the case, you could put some sealer
on it and re install it, but no it's not normal.

That is the most common issue is at one time maybe someone installed a longer one then pulled it out. Here is a link to the proper size bolts.
